Career Programme
Opportunities in Science
The ESOF2010 Career Programme, hosted at the Lingotto Conference Centre, is specifically addressed to PhDs, Postdocs and young researchers who will be offered the possibility to discuss the future of European research in terms of policies, mobility, science publishing and communication. Other initiatives will concern the development of specific skills for scientific careers (communication, writing, interviews). The Career Programme gets an added value by the nomination of Torino as European Youth Capital 2010 by the European Youth Forum.
The Career Programme was built bottom-up thanks to an open Call for Proposals that closed on 30 September 2009. We received 51 proposals from 16 countries.
Discussion in the Career Programme will focus on eight themes:
- Developing your scientific career: practical aspects
- Training and research conditions of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers around Europe
- Comparison of European policies for young researchers - Lisbon agenda
- Academic and non academic careers
- Researchers mobility
- Science publishing and new media
- Science Communication skills
- Entrepreneurial skills
Building on the success of Tapas with the prof in ESOF2008 in Barcelona, we will organize the Pizza with the prof event, allowing future and young researchers to meet important figures from the world of research and chat about science and scientific careers in a pleasant and informal environment.
ESOF2010 Internet Platform for young researchers
The ESOF2010 Internet Platform for young researchers was launched on March 12 during the Workshop "Open Science - Science 2.0" at the EURODOC Annual Conference in Vienna.
This innovative platform will feature on line debates, consultations and collaborative document writing among young researchers, with the aim of pre-discussing the Career Programme themes and gathering opinions from those who will not be able to attend ESOF2010.
Career Programme scientific collaborations
