Call for Proposals ESOF2010 Scientific Programme

The Call for Proposals for the ESOF2010 Scientific Programme officially launched today.

From today and until June 15, researchers and experts from all around the world can submit their ideas for the Scientific Programme, the heart of ESOF - Euroscience Open Forum, which will be held in Torino from 2 to 7 July 2010. The Call for Proposals form is on-line for submitting applications for official selection. ESOF, an event held every two years, will be staged in Torino in 2010. The aim is to create a unique meeting opportunity in Europe on the major themes of science and research, on their implications with ethics and with political-social issues and on scientific popularization on the media. Slogan of the ESOF2010 edition will be Passion for Science, a statement which encompasses the spirit of the event.

Capillary information actions will be started today to collect the most international candidatures and ensure the greatest possible variety of contents and approaches.

Session proposal - round-tables, informal discussions, debates, interviews, conferences, workshops and so-on - must follow the inspiring principles of the forum and tackle the most current scientific and technological issues, picking up on trends and future developments, debating ethical and social issues, identifying the toughest challenges and studying feasible solutions. Ten main themes for debating and focusing have been identified:

  • Sustainable living and moving
  • Evolution, development and adaptation of organisms
  • Moving into and up from the quantum world
  • Responding to global needs
  • Frontiers in energy research
  • Science, knowledge and belief
  • Memory and learning in organisms, social and artificial systems
  • Languages, cultures and variability
  • Integrating science with health care
  • Policy – what follows?

Candidatures will be evaluated by the Programme Committee taking into account, above all, relevance and quality of research, originality of outlooks, interactivity, international scopes, ethical, social, economic and industrial perspectives.

ESOF2010 has set the objective of maximizing gender, cultural and geographic diversity among Forum participants to ensure that the event will be a genuine opportunity for the European scientific community to provide an energetic, imaginative approach to the science of tomorrow and aim at defining the primacy of an economy based on competitive, dynamic knowledge.
