Philippe Busquin was born in 1941. Currently and since 2004, Philippe Busquin is member of the European Parliament. Full member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and substitute of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, he is member of the Parliamentary delegation EU-China. Chairman of the STOA (Scientific Technology Options Assessment), he also chairs the "Sky & Space" Intergroup. His current political action is a continuation of his achievements as European Commissioner in charge of research policies from 1999 to 2004. He has a scientific academic background (Degree in Physics, first degree in philosophy and postgraduate certificate in environmental studies). Philippe Busquin was member of the Belgian Parliament for more than 25 years and had ministerial posts for twenty years. In the cultural field, he chairs the "Domaine du Château de Seneffe" (Museum of orfevrery and Castle of the French Community of Belgium) and "Charleroi Danses" (choreographic centre of the French community).
