Martin Andler, 57, is a professor of mathematics at the University of Versailles-Saint-Quentin. A graduate of Ecole normale supérieure and université Paris 7 Denis-Diderot, he has held positions in CNRS in France and visiting positions in the USA at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology, Rutgers University and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton.

His main research area is in "pure" mathematics, specifically representation theory of Lie groups. He also works on the history of XXth century mathematics, mathematics education, science studies.

He has been Vice-President of Société Mathématique de France (1997-1999), Chairperson of the mathematics department of UVSQ (2003-2005) and Member of its Conseil d'Administration, Associate member of the "Comité d'initiative des Etats généraux de la recherche" (2004), Member of the Paris 2010 ESOF bid team (2007-8).

He has been involved in communication of science as Managing Editor of the Gazette des mathématicien (1986-1990) and various outreach activities in mathematics. In the last 10 years, he has been the President of Animath, an organization devoted to increase the involvement of primary to high school students in extracurricular activities in mathematics.
